Steering Committee Meeting.
Agenda delivered by email.
This is a must attend event for companies involved in microelectronics design and development. It will feature:
RSVP to Graeme Robertson, gprobertson
ieee [dot] org
Chris Nicol and Graeme Robertson will facilitate a meeting to address the state of the Australian Microelectronics industry. There will be two presentations:
Takayuki Kawahara is visiting Australia specifically to meet with the Australian microelectronics industry and to present the IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference. Dr Kawahara is head of the ISSCC Far Eastern committee and will showcase the conference and call for increased Australian participation. This is crucial to grow the awareness and international presence of Australian microelectronics industry and capability.
The NICTA IC Design Incubation Centre is a proposal by NICTA for discussion with microelectronics industry partners. The first step for the centre is to make available low cost tools to Australian SMEs via an agreement with Cadence that delivers substantial saving s and benefits to SMEs undertaking IC design over the next 3 years. We will organise a facilitated discussion around the proposal, as well as ideas for other initiatives that can help deliver benefit to the microelectronics industry.
This event will be followed by ESA's end-of-year event, "ESA Showcase 2009", at the same location, featuring:
Attendees of the Microelectronics meeting who wish to also attend the ESA Showcase 2009 MUST REGISTER SEPARATELY HERE. Follow this link to learn more about the event.
RSVP by following this link http://esa.pingg.com/EsaShowcase2009
Learn about future directions and opportunities in important industry sectors like energy, health, environmental management, transport, education. Meet Embedded Systems companies that can provide innovative technical solutions for your business and see what they have to offer. Come and see a demonstration of an advanced point of sale marketing platform called OASIS that was the highlight of the Retail expo in August.
** First 50 Pre-registered Attendees receive special ESA Gift **
Dr. Glenn Wightwick is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, Director of the IBM Australia Development Laboratory and IBM Australia Chief Technologist.
We have been thinking for some time about how we can apply information technology to improve the efficiency of systems, both natural and man-made.
As the world is becoming more instrumented, there is a great opportunity to integrate data in real-time from a broad variety of sources, and to apply advanced analytics to gain deeper insight into these systems. This approach is being applied to improve traffic and transportation, food supply chains, the environment and even cities.
Nigel Poole is Executive Director of Commercial for CSIRO.
CSIRO's commercialisation of the Wireless LAN technolgy. Nigle will cover the technology development, the legal process, the results, and the recently announced $150M Science and Technology endowment fund.
Dr. Kawahara of Hitachi Labs in Japan is a world-leading semiconductor researcher. A Fellow of the IEEE and Chair of the Far East COmmittee of the ISSCC conference
R&D activities in Hitachi for highly power-efficient digital system are reviewed. Heterogeneous multi core with parallel processing for embedded systems. Program pattern based control of operating frequency and substrate voltage. NV-RAM system for normally-off function that enables digital equipment to be turned on instantly and resume the state prior to the interruption.
Managers, technical staff and researchers from both Industry and Research. Anyone interested in the application of technologies to solve global problems like water, health, infrastructure, transport and telecommunications. These presentations will provide insight into global perspectives on addressing global problems with advanced technologies. We will cover visions for embedded "smarts" into everything, through negotiating IP issues and the value of patenting, and the state of the art microprocessors systems for embedded technologies.

Science EXPOsed is a free event for years 8 and 9 students in NSW to explore the latest in science and technology and learn more about careers in science. In 2008, 1800 students from 55 schools participated and we expect even more students this year.
Science EXPOsed comprises an expo containing 20+ booths at the EXPO, several interactive workshops, panel discussions and shows which run throughout three days. The event offers students an opportunity to meet representatives from various science-related organisations, industry and the public sector, and is a forum for students to consider the opportunities for a career in science.
In 2009 the event will be held at historic venues in Sydney's CBD District - Parliament House, The Mint, Hyde Park Barracks, the Australian Museum and The Powerhouse Museum.
